The short version. We collect the minimum we need to match your swipes with your partner's and to keep the app working. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and you can delete everything at any time.
1. Who we are
This policy applies to the Truce Tonight mobile app (iOS and Android) and the trucetonight.app website. Truce Tonight (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal information described below. Questions or requests: hello@trucetonight.app.
2. What we collect
- Account & identifiers. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique sign-in identifier and (if you choose to share them) your name and email. You can also use the app with an anonymous on-device identifier.
- Pairing data. When you connect with a partner we store the pairing link — a short code or anonymous ID that ties your account to theirs.
- Swipe activity. The titles you swipe yes or no on, the timestamps, and the resulting matches between you and your partner.
- In-app preferences. The streaming services and content settings you choose so we can tailor recommendations.
- Device & diagnostic data. App version, operating system, device model, language, and anonymised crash reports and performance metrics.
- Communications. If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply and reference it later.
We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone, precise location, or any browsing activity outside the app.
3. How we use it
- To run the core feature — matching your swipes with your partner's and surfacing tonight's pick.
- To personalise recommendations based on your swipe history and the streaming services you've selected.
- To diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve the app.
- To respond to your support messages.
- To meet legal obligations or enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising or profiling outside of providing the Truce Tonight service.
4. Third-party services we rely on
To deliver the app we use a small number of carefully chosen providers. Each receives only the data necessary for their function and is bound by their own privacy policy.
- Apple & Google — App Store / Google Play distribution, Sign in with Apple, and platform crash reporting.
- Movie & TV metadata — titles, posters and streaming-availability data sourced from licensed catalog providers (such as TMDB and JustWatch).
- Trailer playback — trailers may be streamed from YouTube or other rightsholders; their embedded players may set their own cookies.
- Cloud infrastructure — encrypted databases and serverless functions used to store pairing and swipe data.
5. How we share information
We share personal information only:
- With your matched partner — the titles you both swiped yes on are visible to them by design.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf under contract.
- Where required by law, or to protect our or our users' rights and safety.
- In connection with a business transfer (e.g. merger or acquisition), in which case the receiving party must honour this policy.
6. Data retention
We keep your account and swipe data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, or if it has been inactive for 24 months, we delete the personal data within 30 days — except where we're required to keep it for legal reasons (for example, financial records or fraud prevention).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the UK GDPR, EU GDPR and California CCPA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data (the “right to erasure”).
- Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw any consent you've given.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account inside the app, or by emailing us. Deletion removes your profile, swipe history, pairing link and matches within 30 days.
9. Children
Truce Tonight is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in some EU/UK regions). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International data transfers
Our servers and some of our service providers may be located outside your country of residence. When we transfer personal data internationally we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU and UK Standard Contractual Clauses.
11. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures — encrypted connections (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls and audit logging — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so we also encourage you to use a strong device passcode.
12. Cookies (website)
The trucetonight.app website does not set marketing or tracking cookies. Strictly necessary cookies may be set briefly to make the site function.
13. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you inside the app. Continued use of Truce Tonight after a change means you accept the updated policy.
